In Reply To: job hunters. They are a retained search firm. That's a firm that is "retained" by a company to identify suitable candidates for a specific (executive-level) position. They are paid a flat fee for their service. Payment of their fee is not contingent on whether or when someone gets hired. The most common kind of recruitment firm does what's called contingency searcy. Say, an employer wants to hire an I.T. manager. The employer will usually contact three or four search firms, tell them what kind of qualifications are needed for someone in the position to be filled, and then the recruiters all compete with each other to be the first to recruit (lure away from their present employer) someone that gets hired. Why? Because the recruiter only gets paid if someone whose resume they submitted gets hired by their client (the employer). Recruiters do NOT want to hear from active job hunters, because their clients want them to "recruit" passive candidates (people currently employed).
