In Reply To: I'm hoping someone can shine some light. A few weeks ago while handing in a report, my supervisor left her computer on, with an e-mail about me (which caught my eye because my name was displayed) saying that she was trying to get rid of me, in favor of a woman who was the daughter of a friend of hers. My life for the next few weeks was hell. Then shortly after that I received a formal notice of progressive disciplinary action, giving me 30 days to "shape up or ship out", for which she gave no concrete argument, just that she wasn't confident that I could handle the responsibility. I decided to quit 2 weeks ago before they had the chance to fire me, but during my exit interview, I let it be known that I was aware that I was essentially being forced out in favor of this other person. HR implied that they were shocked by what I had to say to the point that they were going to "launch an investigation" into my claims (yeah right), but sure enough, I just found out that the woman she wanted has already started. Are there any grounds for a formal complaint through the EEOC even though I quit? Or do I just need to get over my residual bitterness (I did get a new job), and just trash them here on Vault.com?
Message: At this point there isn't much that you can do. Go to the EEOC for what? Their only interest and investigation is for age, sex, race, etc. discrimination. No, what that company did was manage you out the door. It's a slick way of getting you to quit and you have no recourse. I hear this happen all of the time. What's best is to keep your mouth shut and go see a lawyer and document everything and NEVER let someone from Human Resources or anyone for that matter know what your doing. In the future I suggest attaining and reading the book titled Corporate Confidential (www.corporateconfidential.com)to stay one step ahead of the corporate game. You see it might have been better that they fire you and had you had an attorney you probably could have sued and won and even collected unemployment too. Then if the bad company bad mouthed you to a future employer again you would have recourse. Visit the website above and read some of the forum postings and learn more. As for trashing the company, I wouldn't necessarily bad mouth the company name but rather explain what happened in a civilized manner which can mean more than cursing or calling names.
