I'm hoping someone can shine some light. A few weeks ago while handing in a report, my supervisor left her computer on, with an e-mail about me (which caught my eye because my name was displayed) saying that she was trying to get rid of me, in favor of a woman who was the daughter of a friend of hers. My life for the next few weeks was hell. Then shortly after that I received a formal notice of progressive disciplinary action, giving me 30 days to "shape up or ship out", for which she gave no concrete argument, just that she wasn't confident that I could handle the responsibility. I decided to quit 2 weeks ago before they had the chance to fire me, but during my exit interview, I let it be known that I was aware that I was essentially being forced out in favor of this other person. HR implied that they were shocked by what I had to say to the point that they were going to "launch an investigation" into my claims (yeah right), but sure enough, I just found out that the woman she wanted has already started. Are there any grounds for a formal complaint through the EEOC even though I quit? Or do I just need to get over my residual bitterness (I did get a new job), and just trash them here on Vault.com?

Hi,
I was forced out by a "manager" at Washington Mutual in the DFW area. Did you happen to get a chance to forward that email or at least have a chance to have a coworker look at it?
I don't know where you live, but here in Texas, we live in a "Right To Work" state which basically translates into "the employer can let the employee go at any time, without advance notice, and without reason..." More often than not, upper level management will always stand by their front line managers.
My advice, go ahead with the EEOC, let them know what happened. The EEOC will probably want proof that you contacted your Humar Resources to file a complaint first, and if they resolved it, than it can go to the EEOC.
Either way, I hope you moved on to a bigger and better position. In my several times of being "let go", I found out that things happen for a reason...
