upgrading resume on career sites |

I've posted my credentials on several sites, thinking that key words will pick me out during employers' various searches.
These sites often ask me to 'upgrade' my resume for a fee. Does that really bring it to the top of the employers' searches? Is there any way to verify where my resume ended up on in various searches?
