I will begin a new part-time job in September. Since it will only be 10-15 hours a week, I'll need a second job. There is another position I am qualified for at the same company. Should I ask my future boss whether he could put in a good word for me? During the interview, he apologized there were so few hours, but said that if I get my foot in the door, there may be other opportunities. |

I think you have the upperhand here, given that he seemed apologetic about the low hours. He has to understand that you have to earn a living, even though you have a lot to bring to the table. You'd have to tell him anyway that you're looking for a 2nd job since you may need to coordinate your schedules. If he's not willing to give you a good word - despite that he made the decision to hire you - I'd be suspicious if he really knows your worth and if the job is right for you in the long run.
Good luck.
