Message: Before you jump in, make sure you understand the realities of joining the military in today's environement. Our deployments are happening MUCH more frequently and have expanded from 3 months to 4...soon to be 6 to 12 and the deployments are no cakewalk and are dangerous. You could very realistically have your education put on hold for a long long time. Also, check the headlines and you'll see the AF is facing a manpower reduction of 40,000 as a new officer, you may be one of the first to go. I'm and AF Capt with an MBA, the AF did pay for that (partially) and my degree from USAFA as well. Here's your 2 most realistic options if you did join: - Tuition Assistance. There is a cap of $4500 per year for this assistance. You'd go part-time or online to get your MBA. If you are looking at UCLA/USC type programs...you'll still need to dig up about $40,000 of your own funds. Don't select a worthless MBA program like Webster or Pheonix...such a waste of your time and money. Top Tier is necessary if you are looking to land a good job. - Naval Postgraduate School. This is a fulltime MBA program for all officers, but you probably won't get selected until you hit Capt/LT rank which will take you 4 years. Of course, if you apply for a job after this program you'll have to do some work explaining the military tilt of the classwork. - Air Force Institute of Technology. Go to their website, they have many many master's and Phd programs. They also offer a civilian study program. Example is that every once in a while they will put a call out for any officers that would like to get a phd in economics or such. Hope this helps.
