Message: This is a tough one -- people are going to have their opinions on this regardless. I would never just send an e-mail or a little card thanking someone for an interview, but I have on more than one occasion sent thank you letters following interviews -- and I usually get the job I am going for. However, it's not just a "thanks for the interview," but rather a chance to recap how my experience is relevant to the position, and an opportunity to follow up on anything that might have come up during the interview. In other words, my thank you notes have some substance in them. Maybe that makes the difference?
