Too late to send demo? |

Hi,
I had recieved an email on May 1st from a game company representative after sending out my resume to them A YEAR EARLIER (May 2005). They asked if I had a game demo. Word is they have a new project coming up and they are looking for new developers. I am eager and want to take advantage of this.
Currently I work on a high profile financial software project and work many hours, and I've tried to make time to finish up a demo I already have. The problem is that I've just finished cleaning up the demo, and it's been 3 weeks since they sent the email asking if I had one. I was going to send the demo off by tomorrow morning.
I would normally email them within the first week, but I had no demo to give, so I didn't do it. I didn't want to tell them I was still working on it.
Do you think I've screwed up my chances with the company because I've waited about 3 weeks to send it to them?
I know I should apologize for replying so late, but they have waited a whole year to contact me. Maybe they'll cut me a little slack since it's been that long. What do you think? And any recommendations on what to say?
Any help will be appreciated :)
