Yes, the employment agencies get your resumes, have you come in for testing then tell you they have no openings at the moment. You responded to an advertisement that has several positions that fit your background and qualification and suddenly, the job does not exist. Is it better to apply directly to companies. Then again, some companies prefer to have the agencies chose their candidates and of course, once you go to the companies for the interview, they are startled because they did not expect the ethnicity that showed up so you are not chosen. Going to thirty or more agencies and not finding a position, tells you that something does not add up. Now, you have the referral process, a friend recommends you and it depends on the person's position in the company who referred you. It is a losing game. It's not based on your skills level, it boils down to who you know. Experience and qualifications does not find you a job any more. Even if you have the doctoral degree, it is who you know and how far up the ladder they are in the company. |

Sounds like youre having the same trouble. Any other advice for landing "any" finance job in nyc? Since when did "entry" level become 1-3 yrs experience??
