In Reply To: I'm about to hit the job market, so I would appreciate any helpful input. -No full time work experience -MA econ -advanced stats/econometrics (Matlab, SAS, Stata, Excel) -CFA I -quantitative finance/financial math(i did okay, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not "quant" material) -some research experience (public policy, law and technology) -worked on a statewide political campaign -conversational Thai and Japanese -B.A. political science (elementary legal research and writing) -SAS Base Programming Exam (hopefully in May) -learning SQL, okay with Access I tried to summarize my resume in a few bullet points. I was thinking about (1) equity or fixed income research with a focus on the Pacific Rim or (2) a strategy or litigation consulting firm, also with a focus on the Pacific Rim. Those are just ideas, I'm open to suggestions (or else I wouldn't be writing). I'd be very grateful for any help. Thank you.
Message: I suggest cruising the spring job fairs and career expos on campus and the commercial ones put on by newspapers, etc. Visit each employer, pick up brochures, pump a few hands, pass out resumes. Then do some research. Also, do a self-assessment - what do YOU want to do. What are you passionate about - what makes you smile and what is most likely to make you want to spring out of bed every morning.
