In Reply To: Hi, I'm a core java developer and have an Equities algorithmic trading job offer with JPMorgan and a Municipal Bonds job offer with Merril Lynch. Which one would make my resume more marketable in say, 2 years? Thanks a lot for any advice.
Message: I can't tell you much about the java developer part but I can tell you about the industry. alogorithmic equity trading has been a hot market for the past few years. So hot that the algorithems no longer add any value. However, the market for this talent is transferable to other equity markets which are considerably bigger and employ more people than do Muni Bond markets. There are litterally millions of different Muni Bonds out there. The trading activity is generally low. I would say that this market is more specialized, the skills may be tranfereable to the general fixed income market which is pretty big but not as easily as the equity position would tranfere to other industries. Good luck
