I'm currently set to transfer to the West Coast (Los Angeles) with my current job in two weeks. However, I've realized that what I do is not going to get me where I want in my career. Should I resign and look for options from here without a job or make the transfer and possibly look for jobs there while still employed (where my options will be slimmer based on available industries, contacts, etc.). Given that I'm not purely switching companies and am making somewhat of a career change, I'm just afraid that I may be unemployed for several months, which may affect acquiring a new job as well as my resume down the line. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |

two rules of thumb:
Always fullfil any commitment you've made, and it's better to find a job when you already have one.
Before moving west against your better judgement or resigning you may want to voice these concerns to your present manager ...
