In Reply To: Recently I received a gift from an employee at work for valentines day because she was my secret valentine. The item I recieved was one that we sell at my job. As I was leaving one of my managers came up to me and asked if I had a receipt to go with my package. I told her no, that it was a gift, and that I was on my way home. She told me that I should not be allowed to leave because I had no proof that I had purchased the item. A few days later, I went into work after my scheduled days off, and my other manager told me they didn't need me to work that day. The next day, I recieved a call saying that they "didn't need me to work until further notice." That was a week ago. Then today I heard that I was being fired for theft from one of my fellow employees. What should I do? I don't think my secret valentine has the reciept anymore, and I don't want either one of us to get terminated. I was still under my company's 30 day probationary hire period at the time this happened, and am the sole provider for my family. PLEASE HELP ME!
Message: First, I am very sorry this is happening to you. It is very unfair. I hope i can help you, I used to work in HR department of a large corporation. You didnt mention if the position you had was a union position. If it is then do contact your union immidiatelly. Second, technically if you were under 30 days period the company can terminate employment without a doubt and really no explanation. What i would suggest ( if of cause you were given one) go through a hand book and see the policy for termination of employment. Do set up a meeting and just explain the situation as it happened. Do not worry about anyone else but yourself, because this will affect only your future and your career opportunities. Plus, you are not blackmailing anyone and just saying the truth. Contact your secret valentine and see if they have any record or a receipt. I do suggest you write an official letter stating the situation and bring it along to the meeting. Have everything in writing. Even if you were terminated, you need to have a written paper saying that. I could help you more if I had the details. So if anything please do feel free to email me alfex_silver@yahoo.com. My name is Anna. And I would be more then happy to give you more personalized advice
