In Reply To: I just had a first job interview and was surprised that the interviewer revealed the compensation. Does this mean that the compensation will not be negotiable if I eventually get an offer?
Message: It may be that the compensation range is fixed, and the manager simply didn't want to waste your time with further interviews if the range turned out to be unattractive to you. There is probably some room for negotiation (keep in mind that things like vacation, flex time, etc. are also part of compensation and negotiable even if base salary is not). However, if you are looking at a job with a base salary between $70-90K, it is extremely unlikely that a company will consider hiring you at $115K. They might go a bit above $90K for a great candidate, but there are limits (both in what they can afford, and in terms of internal equity and their pay structure).
