In Reply To: My brother, who is now 39, is looking for a new job. He has been at his current job as a cashier in a grocery store for 14 years. His main problem on job applications is that he quit 2 jobs that he had worked at in his early 20's when he was still a young guy living at home with Mom & Dad. (One job was with Wal-Mart & the other was with a fast food place.) Should he mention those 2 jobs that he quit on his job applications or should he say that the only work experience that he has had is with his current job?
Message: I can't imagine that a work history like that is a dilemma...if he had made those quick changes within the past 5 years, maybe. But not after only having 1 job for the past 14 years. You should NEVER lie on an application - you usually sign a statement that everything is full and correct, and if it is found out that he lied, he can be terminated and denied any benefits that otherwise he would be eligible for. Also, in a lawsuit claim or workers comp claim, if they discover it, he would immediately lose his claim. All because he lied about something that happened 14 years earlier.
