I have always wanted to work in Marketing and Public Relation. It has always been my dream career, but I have sent many years in the Public Library system. I did not plan to stay in the library system, I've had internships with DC COMMICS and Atlantic Records but nothing has turn out permanent, so I decided to continue in the Library system, but I am unfulfilled and I long to work in the career I desire. I have BA in Communications, and I continue to job hunt, but my Library Back ground does not help me in the industry, I am considered on of the best in the Library system, but I would like to be considered the best in the care of my dreams. Can someone offer me advice on what I can do to live my dream?

Exactly what type of marketing / PR position are you seeking? There are several paths you can take but what interests you most?
What experience do you have that is transferable to Marketing / PR? Have you participated in any projects that let you explore your creative side? Have you designed or worked on projects that generated revenue for the library?
How long ago were the internships? If more than a year or so ago - they will have little value in your current campaign.
Can you begin to work on projects that allow you to pursue a path in Marketing / PR within the library? If so, do that to start building your resume.
I tell most people I talk to...you can make any career move you want - you really can! Your marketing materials (letters, resumes, communication with companies) must be impeccable. Your presentation in the interview has to be right on. You must face every objection and have a plan to turn the objection around. You should focus on companies that have the reputation of hiring "outside the box" thinkers. Talk to as many marketing pros as you can. Get their feedback and recommendations. Find out who they know so you can talk to them too.
If you're serious about making a career move just go for it! Just be prepared to demonstrate how your experience in the library has prepared you to do what you want to do.
I found my true calling and passion in Marketing/PR. So do what I did....go for your dream. If you're unsure how to make the move, then seek out the assistance you need to make it a reality for you.
