In Reply To: Hello, I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administraton with a concentration in Information Systems. I have IT experience from one of my internships as a Data Analyst, and I am currently an Office Supervisor at an Engineering firm. I am looking to relocate to Atlanta in a few months to go to graduate school but at the same time I am looking for a job down there. I must have applied for at least 100 jobs but I have not got a single response back. I just wanted to know how is the job market down there, is it really that tite, and what are the best effective ways to get in with these companies?
Message: mcurrie, Can you take a week and spend in the city attending events, interviewing, developing contacts? If not, that's a good start. Have you taken any time to generate informational interviews in Atlanta? Remember this: your resume will need to convey your value and outweigh that of the local competition to get you noticed in a long distance search. Conducting a long distance search is difficult simply from the standpoint that your address is not in the same city as your search. Why should an employer hire you, wait for you to move, possibly pay relocation costs (even if you don't require that - the thought still creeps into their mind) when Sally down the street can start tomorrow and doesn't have to be relocated? Just be prepared to show real value and out shine your competition to employers through your marketing materials and in interviewing. Hope this helps!! Andrea http://interviewing.com/ Andrea
