I have been doing computer consulting for 18 months now, and would like to get into IT Audit. I am taking the CISA in JUNE but so far have had no interest from employers in my resume. I have changed my resume multiple times, but obviously have no experience in audit. Everyone wants at least one year of IT audit / controls experience? Yeah right, when no one is willing to give you a chance! I graduated Cum Laude and thought I would have no problem landing that first great job, instead I'm going in a completely different direction and feel trapped. I'm too old to change careers again. Does anyone have any contacts for entry level IT Audit positions or something that would lead to it? |

I started looking for a job around the first of May. I signed up for all the job boards and applied for tons of jobs some of which were IT Audit with Big 4's. I have about a year of IT Audit experience but don't have my CISA yet. I plan to sit for it in December.
I got a few bites along the way but nothing came through. Then I got one hit about two weeks ago from a company that flew me in to interview and has now made an offer. I got that last week and was planning on taking it when I suddenly got deluged with calls.
Since last Thursday, I have been contacted by 7 companies and have down or will do 6 interviews with in the next 10 days including a Big 4 firm. The best advice I have is to study the audit process carefully and review CobiT thoroughly. In one of my interviews the IT Audit Manager gave me 2 scenarios and had me walk him through how I would handle them and what I would do. Thanks to my studying up, I nailed them and even came up with some things that he hadn't thought of.
Also realize this; nobody out there has much more than 2 years SOX experience so there aren't many SOX "black belts" out there. Read through SOX so you have an understanding of it, but Section 404 is only 2 paragraphs and don't give you much to go on. Check out the PCAOB website and also go read all you can at www.isaca.org. This will give you some more insight into the process. Then see if you can get in for an interview. If you go in and knock their socks off (no pun intended), it should lead to a second interview and you can go from there.
Also, don't turn down any request for interviews, no matter where they are from. I had one company contact me from a town I did not want to move to, so I told them my salary requirement was $30K higher than what I was willing to except. They said OK and called me back 3 days later to set up an interview. I've even raised my minimum salary req on Monster by $25K to try and stem the tide a bit. Hope this helps you. Hang in there; it??s a seller's market right now.
BTW, how was the CISA exam?
