I've about had it with searching for a job in the Chicago area. I've actually had more responses from companies in the Boston area -- even with a Chicago address!
I just came across a posting for the Chicago area on a one of the big job boards that actually listed about six specific suburban cities from which candidates would be considered. It stated in bold that nobody would be considered outside of these cities! I really hope that, eventually, if things get back to the way that they were about five years ago, these practices will come back to bite Chicago-area companies. Right now, they think they are golden in being able to hand-pick candidates from specific neighborhoods! |
