Currently I have a two page resume the has education, work experience, and research experience. I am currently looking for a job doing health policy research. I have been getting mixed responses. I was told I should cut out employment to make my resume 1 page. However, I was also told that for research jobs/non-profit jobs it is okay to have a two page resume -- that it is the business field that insists 1 page resumes. Does anyone know the policy? Thanks! -Beth |

If your resume is a history report of "I did this, I did this, I did this" then it won't work for you anyway. Especially if you are changing industries or functional titles.
Focus your resume on the marketable skills / accomplishment you have for the position you are seeking - not the position you are leaving.
Put yourself squarely behind the desk of the job you are pursuing - write your resume from that standpoint so the decision maker can see how you solve their problems.
It's certainly ok to have a 2 page resume. It's ok to have a 1 page resume too - as long as it speaks to the needs of that hiring manager.
I agree with the previous poster - a resume won't get you the job. You have to be prepared to demonstrate your value beyond the that piece of paper.
