I have sent many resumes to companies that match my skills very well. I rearly hear back from the companies. I am not sure if I should be following up after I send the resumes. If So, many times online you are not given a contact name or phone number, how would one follow up.
Thank you

You need to find out the hiring manager's name and try to contact that person. This is difficult if you have no contacts within the company. If you have a contact, they can at least mention your name or introduce you. You may try Hoovers.com and get the professional subscription. Then you can get the names of the major vice presidents. It's all about networking, in advance, these days.
Last year, I sent out over 300 resumes with custom cover letters. I got about ten interviews and only one job offer. Since I was recently dislocated and unemployed, I had to take the first offer I could get. This job search took me approximately five months. When the economy was booming, it only took me eleven days, and I had three job offers. I also refused many interviews.
I've found now that employers are super picky. For one position, I had outstanding credentials and experience and would have been a perfect match, however, they chose someone else. (Probably because I'm older.)
