Recently a former B-School acquaintance received a lucartive offer from a competing company; her employer is now scared s-less of losing her because she is the only senior person in the orgainization doing her type of work -all the others are juniors and there is no mod-level person in that particular job. She says that they will counter offer (more money, better bonus, quality of life concessions, etc.) Conventional wisdom says never accept a counter offer, but gut wise the place she would be going to might not be all that great. So to paraphrase the Clash says: "should she stay or should she go?"
The problem is she hates her job and her bosses but could maybe stick it out for 10 more years (she is 49) and then retire to consult for two or three years and retire fully at 62.
I think that going may not be the right solution now but I could be worng. Any concurrence or dissent?

Will they give her a contract? That's the only way I'd accept a counteroffer.
