In Reply To: I'm a little late with this posting, based on the dates of previous posts. Hopefully, the addage, "better late than never" applies. Employers most definitely still use recruiters and will continue to do so even in stagnant or downward trending economic times since the latter simplify the hiring process and even indemnify client corporations from any possible candidate filed law suits claiming discriminatory hiring practices. And, unfortunately, recruiters can and do "blacklist" candidates. It's not a decision based on spite but rather very asceptic rationale. The client is the hiring corporation, and if the candidate embarrasses the recruiter or places him or her in a bad light with the client through misrepresentation or poor presentation, the recruiter will take note and make sure not to repeat the same mistake twice, lest he or she lose the client to another recruiter that delivers a more consistent quality product. As for what to do: think about what you may or may not have done that earned you an "ignore" status from a recruiter (consistent misspellings on resume, late returning calls, etc.)and make sure not to repeat that same behavior. Keep your resume on job boards for electronic (spider) searches and reach out to new recruiters. Fortunately, they're a very competitive bunch. Good luck.
Message: Recruiters are sales people. My suggestion is if you are contacted by a recruiter, do not automatically send them your resume. Do your 'Due dilligence' ,Ask them how they are going to market you to a firm? Be upfront with them, other wise you are wasting your time. Ask what hiring managers they have relationships with (very important)? Do not discuss salary with them off the bat, give them a range. Some recruiters just want to see what you are making in a particular position & company. Some recruiters say they have jobs in the pipeline, but they are actually collecting your resume for future use. I have run into this issue many times. Keep in mind, there are thousands of recruiters out there, don't get hung up on one! Like investments, you have to diversify! Keep your head up, something will come along!
