Is it possible to be blacklisted by a recruiter/headhunter? The reason I ask is one patricular firm I have dealt with has become very "cold" to me.
It also goes further: I answer ads (albeit via Monster.com - but directly to their e-mail) that they have on the intrenet where the position would be a perfect fit (and I know because as I read the ad I see all the same bullet points on my resume)but not a nibble. I have written them off but I am angry. Should I confront them in a carefully worded letter or drop the matter and just persevere by looking with other recruiters and on my own? Any advice would be appreciated. |

I wish recruiters would black list me...I've found them to be a waste of my time and some of the most incompetent people I ever met. One had "an emergency" and kept me waiing for over an hour and a half and then arrived, didn't apologize, and then her partner who'd been there the whole time finally interviewed me anyway. Meanwhile I'm running in and out feeding the parking meter after another hour passes. I wouldn't hire the recruiters I meet for jobs. They are disorganized have no clue who you are, and never have a good sense of what the job they are trying to fill entails because they don't work at the company themself.
I have found my interviews with recruiters to be a waste of vacation time and a good suit. My dad gave me a good piece of advice once with regards to recruiters - he said the types of companies who think they can find the best people by hiring through recruiters probably isn't the type of company you would want to work for anyway. I tend to agree. The best jobs are found through networking. Have you thought of working with your university's alumni?
And just a tip if you insist on working with recruiters - don't ever give them contact info of your current superviser even if they request it. I have heard horror stories of mistakes where they accidentally contacted the current supervisor, overlooking the fact that the candidate is still there. Good luck.
