Corp Finance - Career Advice |

I eed some career advice.
I'm a career switcher (with an Engineering/Project Management background) that just graduated with an MBA in finance from a top 10 University. After a relatively difficult job search, I received an offer for a corporate/managerial finance position at one of the 5 largest public transportation companies (Authorities) in the U.S. ($1Billon Operating Budget, $500MM Revenues).
This offer isn't my "ideal" position. However, it does allow me to accomplish my goal of switching into finance.
My question: If I eventually want to move into a better corporate finance position in a publicly traded company, will this position help me get there. I'm a bit concerned that even though this is a corp finance position (i.e. budgeting, forecasting, project valuations, financial analysis)... it is inside a company whose operations are subsidized by city and state government money.
All advice is greatly appreciated since I need to make a decision soon.
