In Reply To: My parents are both baby boomers. Dad is in consulting/CEO of consulting firm in Philadephia. Mom works in the law. They both have Masters and have always worked. Neither has the desire to retire and it has nothing to do with money. They are both so "insane" workaholics, use to the competition and will never be happy unless they are working. Baby boomers define themselves through their work and it won't be easy to give up. I'd my parents both 15 more years and they are late 50's. "Senior citizen" doesn't apply anymore. 60 isn't what it use to be and they are going to be working much longer. As for the "old economy" workers, they need to hold on to their jobs as long as possible, especially with the economy. Pension isn't quite what it once was. I love the outlook but don't count on 2008, not going to happen.
Message: You are probably right. The babyboomers are so far in debt, they need to keep working until they drop. I'm wondering if 2008 is fact or fallacy. Probably falacy. And then there's outsouring and lower wages. I'm at the tail end of the baby boomers, and even I plan to work until I drop. Mostly, because I haven't made all that much money to save, and I'm single. I'll probably end up as a highly, educated homeless person roaming the beaches of San Diego. That's all I can expect of retirement right now. My dad has an eighth grade education but is financially secure, and I'm the only one in my family with a college education, but I'm also the poorest as well. At this rate, I don't expect to attain what my dad and older siblings have. The American middle class is hopelessly treading to the trash heap. If I work another job to try to save more, I keep getting penalized by paying more taxes. It's a welfare for the rich and poor society, and the middle class get screwed in the process.
