In Reply To: Writing is arguably my best skill. However, I do not want to be a starving writer for years before only having a chance to make it. I have a degree from a top 20 school, 1 year of sales success but want to utilize my talents better. Any suggestions on realtively stable careers in the financial world that involve writing and best place to start?
Message: I'd start with purchasing, or subscribing to, "The Writer's Market", www.writersmarket.com. They seem a prime source and widely accepted authority on the writer's markets. In addition to an annual subscription service, they publish a very thick guide, updated annually, that provides names of publishers and publications that buy written materials and contact data for these sources. I'm just now flipping through my old 2003 Edition, as I've investigated this as a potential part-time vocational/avocational outlet myself and will likely adopt writing as part of my career transition. Writer's Market cover books, magazines, even screen and play writing (not sure about newspapers). Recreational (sports and leisure), trade, technical, general interest, ... just about any market is covered! Best of Luck to you!
