I am having such problem specifying the objective of my career search on my resume. I am looking in the field of marketing, but it is very broad. I have had two internships, one in market research and one in internet advertising. I dont want to limit myself to these two when looking for a job. But if I dont have plenty of experience, how can I know what specific professions in marketing I want to put down on the resume. I am asking because I read everywhere that in the resume one should be as specific as possible on what one is looking for.
Does anyone have some knowledge on marketing professions and how can I state some fields without limiting my scope too much, because after all, I am just a graduating college student and want to be open to as much positions as possibe? |

I've been dislocated about five times in the last five years and have held various marketing positions. In my last dislocation, the company sent me to Lee Hecht Harrison for counseling.
I listened to their guidance, but I could not clearly define my objective, because I have so many skills and training in different industries/capacities. The counselers there actually became perturbed with me because I couldn't follow their routine of clearly stating my job objective.
Like you, I wanted to be open, so I could find a position in this tough economy and not spend an extended amount of time on a search.
I basically stuck with the chronological resume style and used my cover letter to define my objective. For each different position, I would focus my cover letter and skills to fit the job description. I finally got a job, but it wasn't due to the counseling I received from LHH.
Although I didn't get the job of my dreams, I'm making money while I wait for the job market to open up, so I can apply for better positions.
