Yep - its tough market out there...first check out www.dbm.com and see if they still have report showing how less than 1% of people get jobs thru internet...
Depending on your degree...MIT is a decent school - start finding that retail fall back job - yes I am serious. You need to keep some cash coming in and having a job keeps your resume history in line.
You need to find someone who wants to hire a person. That's the hard part. Then you have to find someone willing to hire you. Tougher.
So you need to figure out - who is hiring...they may not advertise. That is what networking is about. Like at the mall - some people have signs - others haven't yet hired for summer/retail. Start small...drive around Boston to see which companies have signs.
Check out MANPOWER and temp places...go in with full resume and say "i can do this" and "what do you need done"...
Its tougher if you are an engineer...but look around at small places...see if you can find some Venture Captial firms and find out which ones are doing well.
Students loans? Get everythign ready in case you need to forebear in 6 months...its the toughest economy out there!
Good luck and complain to your polical leaders - I mean isn;t it stupid that you will have this degree from MIT but YOU cannot find a job? What does this say about MIT and the economy? Don;t blame yourself...there are tons of graduates out there looking for work with lots of degrees!
