Message: I'm in the same situation. college background in finance/economics, 2 years of work in real estate consulting (mainly yield analysis, appraisal, and number crunching for financial structuring in deals. And I want out. I hate it. I want completely out. I have some friends who are just telling me "pass your level 1 CFA (i failed it in December) and we'll get you hooked up". No. I don't want that. I want so completely away from banks and consulting that its not even funny. My most marketable skills, I think, are 1) I am a decent writer, since my job now consists of writing reports explaining financial analysis for city council and school board members who try to shoot down publicly subsidized projects and 2) I'm smart. of course it's hard to put that on a resume and talk about in an interview. "what skills do you have?" "well, I'm really freaking smart!". yeah, I'd hire me... Anyway, does anybody have any advice for how to completely change careers? I think that I'd like to work for a hospital, and figure out how those work because with all the new regulations and whatnot (Stark 2, etc.) I think that there is opportunity there. Or maybe a public entity, nonprofit, something like that. But then again, in those fields, I'm afraid that I would get stuck into the same hatred of position I'm in now. And I'm also afraid that I'm stuck in this market and won't be able to get out (1.8 million in the MSA). Any suggestions? Anyone?
