In Reply To: Recruiters don't want to hear from job hunters. It even says so in the Kennedy "Guide to Working With Executive Recruiters" (written for employers). Employers want passive candidates, not active job hunters (it's an old, irrational prejudice). Recruiters only advertise to job hunters as a way of finding prospects for their recruitment business. That's why you should just avoid any recruiter-placed job ads - EVEN if they give the name of the purported hiring company. The simple answer is: contacting recruiters is not only a waste of time and money, it can actually result in hurting your viability in the job market. They might just blast your resume everywhere, and that will "poison the well" so you won't be able to get in at co's that don't use recruiters. Once the employer gets a resume forwarded by a recruiter, then the employer would be legally obligated to pay a recruiter fee if the co. hires you. Respond to known, verifiable OPEN positions. There's enough of THEM out there. What MOST people need, but don't have time to acquire, is a knowledge of how to effectively market themselves.
Message: Yes, I believe you are right... So far my experience with recruiters has been mixed, however, I landed one interview using one. The broadcast service seemed too unfocused. I did not realize that they would make your resume so public! Thanks for your sound advice
