In Reply To: Hello all, I am seeking a job in the sports industry and have been attending several events recently in hopes of making some contacts. Last week, I attended an event where I met a very high level sports agent, we met at the bar of our hotel. The conversation was going great until about his 3rd drink when he started getting a bit tipsy and invited me back to his room. I politely declined, asked for his card, and then excused myself. When I saw him the next morning in the hotel lobby, he was certainly not as friendly as he was the night before. I plan to follow up with him soon but am unsure what would be the best approach. My goal is not to work for his firm but to learn more about the industry and have him possibly put me in contact with some people. Since our conversation was pretty casual, a formal follow-up letter would seem awkward. On the other hand, an informal email may not be taken seriously. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, - Jenifer
Message: I don't think he was really trying to "network" in the same way you were. An e-mail couldn't hurt. But I seriously doubt it'll get more than a cursory read before it hit the recycle bin. Better than a formal letter that'll probably just hit the trash can.
