In Reply To: I have very mediocre credit as well - basically cannot make my student loan payments because I have been largely unemployed since I received my MBA. But I checked my 3 credit reports last week and found no evidence that a a single potential employer had looked into my credit history. In any event, it is illegal for an employer to deny employment to an individual who has filed for bankruptcy. http://www.itssimple.biz/biz_tools/text/P05_1575.html Furthermore, I watched a report on Bloomberg News covering this topic a couple of weeks ago. They cited a timely situation whereby a candidate launched a successful lawsuit against an employer who did just that. The company was fined several '000,000.
Message: Having spent 15+ years in the military with a Top Secret Clearance, I thought this would be a plus for me. WRONG I filed Bankruptcy after separation from the military, five years ago. And was turned down for three jobs, two of which I was a shoo in for. Bottom line is a BK on my records indicates financial irresponsibility, and therefore, a security risk. "I could be bribed easier". Look at the history. The last three high profile trials involving drastic breaches in security clearances involved large amounts of money. Needless to say, I'm learning to steer around the issue.
