A year and a half ago I graduated with a degree in Math and Engineering Science from Vanderbilt. I started off studying computers, didnt like it, and switched to ES in order to graduate on time. I spent the last year working as a QA tester for a small internent company, got bored of it, packed my bags and moved to Jacksonville, Fl. I want to do something with my Math degree but I'm not sure where to begin. Jacksonville has many insurance companies and a lot of banks have corporate offices there, and I think they would need people who have good analytical skills and work well with numbers. I'm just not sure what those jobs would be nor do I know how I would get them. Any suggestions or advice on what kinds of jobs a Math degree can get you? Thanks! |

Usually, people get math degrees when they want to pursue a career as a teacher or a college professor. If you want to do the latter, then you should enroll in graduate school.
As far as private industry is concerned, there isn't much out there for people with BS engineering degrees, let alone math or ES degrees.
If you want to get a job with a bank or insurance company, you will probably need a business degree, preferrably an MBA. With a math degree, and your boredom with IT, you may be able to land a job as a teller in a bank, but that's about it.
