Settle this bet, if you will. Have this friend of mine --we'll call him Ralph to protect the innocent -- who's considering the idea of misrepresenting himself to prospective employers. He only has an associates, but might lie and say he has a bachelor's, since most companies won't even glance askew at you without one nowadays. He thinks most companies will take him at his word and won't verify the degree. I say they likely do check, in most cases. I've also told him that his idea is far from brilliant, because even if a company doesn't discover the truth until after he's hired, they could terminate him on the spot for misrepresentation. Okay, recruiters and hiring managers....let's hear it. |

All I can say is that more and more companies are calling the university to verify degrees. Lots of companies subcontract verification of education and work experience. Once one is caught lying, it gets around pretty quick. Honest is truly the best policy.
