Hi there,
Recently I signed an employeement letter with company B but my current company A would like to give me better offer. My question is can I cancel the job offer I signed with company B? I read the employeement letter carefully, and there is no words talking about what will happen if I cancel this offer. Anyone have any idea?
Thanks. |

Trident9440,
There is probably no or very little legal recourse they could take. You need to decide what is the ethical thing to do. If you accept an offer you are giving them your word that you want to work for them. Of course it works both ways - some companies in the past 4 years rescinded job offers, but most only did it as a last resort. It is a catch 22.
Be sure that you also know what is a "better offer". If it is just better pay there is probably a reason; longer hours, work on vacations, etc... Look at all the angles before you decide what is best for you. Was it really just money that made you start looking in the first place?
All that being said if you decide to stay where you are instead of taking the job with company B talk to company A about it. If you are upfront with them they should respect your decision. If you just don't show up to work and don't handle it professionally you have just burned (actually more like nuked) that bridge - and companies talk!
At least you have a good problem:)
