RoxQ,
Without knowing what your degree is in, your GPA, your work experience or what type of positions you are applying for it is hard to give a lot of advise.
My first question is did you utilize your College's Career Center? They have employers contacting them wanting to hire grads! You can also use local Community College Career Centers.
If you are not getting any phone calls then your problem is with your resume and/or being qualified for the positions you are applying for.
Learn how to play the game. Companies think that they are doing YOU a favor if they even take the time to send you a rejection letter. Like the other writer said - network and be persistent. It is an unfair game and the odds are with the house but you win if stick with it and stay positive.
From my experience of being a Corporate Recruiting Manager for 7 years and working with other Recruiters for the last year here are some of the reasons that candidates don't make it:
- Becoming negative or getting frustrated during the interview process
- Not asking for the job during the interview
- Poor interviewing skills
- Not being persistent and following up
- Not changing their resume for the position
- Poor communication skills
Look for a position that will help you build the skills you will need in your career.
Happy Hunting!

CollegeCareerAdvisor,
I'm in the same situation as RoxQ, other than a lot of companies did not want to pursue with an interview or an offer because of my sponsorship (work permit) requirement. I graduated cum laude and had internships at ML and a petroleum company in Africa. The only company that has accepted to sponsor me is for a stockbroker position while I'm really interested in IB and Research. I'm thinking about taking the stockbroker job just to get my foot in the door. Any advice? Do you know anything about the sponsorship thing?
Thx.
