Message: After nearly 10 years in the Big Apple, I am ready for a change. It finally occurred to me that in order to stay here, I need to find a job that pays a lot. I made more in my last position than anywhere else. Unfortunately, when prospective employers hear my last salary, they realize I'm too expensive for them. They either tell me straight out, or lead me to believe they'll call me back, but then they don't. I'm willing to take less, but the lower I end up, I'm afraid, the more bitter I'll be that I'm making so much less. Ny is an expensive town. I'm thinking I'd have more options if I lived somewhere else, where the cost of living wasn't so high. Consequently, I've been indicating that I'm willing to relocate but I don't think it's reasonable to expect a new employer to pay for my relocation when I'm sure there are plenty of local options they can pursue. Does anyone have any suggestions? To further complicate things, I'm not sure where I'd want to go (although I'm open to suggestion) and I'm not looking for anything specific. I consider myself an "expert generalist."
