Message: Hey everyone, i have finally decided to ask for help after my continuous search has proven futile. I graduated from a top non-ivy school in 2003, but i missed the boat on college recruitment even though several big companies were willing to take me (i have since toned my follow-up skills) I am a fin major and sitting for the CFA I in june My questions are threefold: 1. My last employer was a national retail financial services firm that does not have a lot to say about me mainly because i did not sell anything. (They wanted me to start with my inmediate market, although i was new in town) I worked w them since oct. 03 until april and decided that was a no go. Before that i only have menial jobs typical of college students. I do not have internships bc i spent summers abroad to become fluent in japanese & spanish So, (1) should i even put this job in my resume ( i did get 6,63 & 65 licenses & health +disb.)? I have since moved to NYC lokoing for greener pastures, after saving a few grand while working in temp jobs that had hourly pay. leading me to (2): Can employers/recruiting firms see that i am hiding this temp jobs at 10hr from them? should i include them on the resume? Just today i found out i was rejected for an entry level position in Bloomberg. This is despite the fact that i though i had done well. I am good at interviews, in fact i was almost always called back after an initial 1st interview during my college days. I suspect that the employment gap hurt me ( i was asked by 3 ppl about it) and hence today i have tailored my resume to functional w/o employment dates I have no more leads or interviews besides an alumni that is a director at salomon smith that I hosted at an event at my alma matter I have submitted my resume & cover to tons of postings in craig's, hotjobs, vault, careerbuilder and the only calls i received were from staffing firms and an upstart IB that wanted me to cold call all day. I have been here in NYC for about a month. Leading me to (3) At this point i am getting a little nervous. cash for search is running out, luckily I am living with elderly family friends that have rooms to spare. I am considering to applying for unemployment since loan bills next month will be a problem. (3)Will this affect my employability/ credit? (4)Who will be able to see this information? and 5. (5)should i press on with staffing firms? (6)Can they see my salary records? (7)Where can i find good recruitment events in NYC area (jobfairs?) and finally, (8)Can someone recommend any place like bars, etc where i will have contact with people in the corporate finance / accounting industry that may help me in the long run? (9) or perhaps other jobs that fit this criteria? I am willing to bartend or do other non-professional jobs at this point
