If there is anyone out there that has ever been terminated from a position
1)How long did it take you to find an employer willing to hire you?
2)How did you explain your termination during the interview?
I have been unemployed for over 6 months and explaining why I was terminated is getting harder and harder. The real reason: my boss and I were like oil and water and the person that replaced me has since left as well-it REALLY is my boss that's the problem. My reason during the interview: I was not the right fit for the position. This explanation is obviously not working for me. |

I was downsized from a well-know international consulting firm in 01/03; and it took me 6 months to find a job with a small local outfit (3-month process ) after I've gone through 15 other interviews. It was rather ironic that my unemployment ran out the week before I started my new job. For anyone who was looking around that time, the unemployment peaked at 6.4%, you could not be ask for a worse time to be looking for a new job. It turned out the new job was not a good fit. I knew that was not my type of job before I signed-up. Because I had no other options and was desperate to take just about anything and it was better than staying unemployed. The people there are nice; however it was not my cup of tea. I was again fired after we lost a major client that I was responsible. Almost relieved to be fired because I hated that job so much and I had headache everyday.
Again in 04/04, I had to start to my job search AGAIN. Maybe that the economy was a bit better early in this year, I had five interviews and managed to land current contract position that I like in just four weeks. I had to say that it was a good timing. It turned out to be a perfect fit. Given the current job market, 4 to 6 job search is pretty normal. Stay focused and if you try hard-enough, something will come along. I had fine-toned my resumes, interviews and presentations so much many time and I also kept a history of my interview notes. As the cause for the unemployment came up, be very brief and move on.
Hope that your situation will improve. One thing that I did not realize at that time after I'd gone through the prolonged search, I learned so much about myself and learn to appreciate many things in life. In other words, it turned out to be one lesson in life that I had to learn in order to grow and move on.
