As a recruiter I can say that every company I have worked for/with does a complete background check, including degree verification. If for some reason the check is done after the person starts, they will be terminated immediately. |

Sure, you may get away with it in the short run, but given the low cost of doing basic background checks and the simplicity on online degree verification, it won't be worth it. You could land dream job X, then get fired and be blackballed forever. For the job I recently got, they verified degree, honors and GPA so stretching the truth is a bad idea, too.
