In Reply To: Settle this bet, if you will. Have this friend of mine --we'll call him Ralph to protect the innocent -- who's considering the idea of misrepresenting himself to prospective employers. He only has an associates, but might lie and say he has a bachelor's, since most companies won't even glance askew at you without one nowadays. He thinks most companies will take him at his word and won't verify the degree. I say they likely do check, in most cases. I've also told him that his idea is far from brilliant, because even if a company doesn't discover the truth until after he's hired, they could terminate him on the spot for misrepresentation. Okay, recruiters and hiring managers....let's hear it.
Message: As a recruiter I can say that every company I have worked for/with does a complete background check, including degree verification. If for some reason the check is done after the person starts, they will be terminated immediately.
