I'm looking ahead one year to when I leave my Big 4 accounting job (I'm now starting my 2nd year). At the end of 2 years, we are expected either to take the promotion to Senior Auditor or leave. I don't want the job, and I'd like to collect unemployment, so I'm thinking maybe I won't resign and I'll force them to lay me off.
Would this be likely to hurt my future job search in any way?
Also, if I were to get hired for another job and tell them I am available to start 2 months after I end my current one, would I be able to collect unemployment during that period, even though I have a job lined up?
Thanks in advance for any answers or advice. |

Corey,
Job market is not good these days. I don't know where you are located, but for example Chicago ha seen declines in employment while the rest of the country is inching up. NY and most big cities in CA are the same.
Sit tight for about another 6 months, but start networking now.
Also, being fired (laid off is a term that still will be interpreted as fired) will create more problems than you think.
Aslo, unemployment is not so easy to collect. It should never be used as an option.
Work where you work now, network the whole time too, look for jobs, connect with headhunter, BUT DO NOT QUIT until you got another job.
You will have to take it up (you know where) for a while, live with it. Employment gaps are a horrible blemish on your resume.
