Message: About two weeks ago, I responded to a job posting on a Web forum (Trade/purpose-oriented forum, not really a job board per se). The following day I received a response from the president of this small firm acknowledging receipt of my resume and letter. He went on to say they??d be collecting resumes for ??about a month and then we??ll be in touch.?? Not sure what I could add to the conversation, and not wanting to be a ??noodge??, I have not communicated since then. In retrospect, this seems a rather cool response ?? as if the company is either less than serious, or otherwise less than interested in me, I.e., I??m not the ??ideal?? candidate and they can afford to be super-choosey, etc. (Haven??t we ALL encountered that in this market?) On the other hand, this is a company in which I am very interested, offering what seems to be a position for which I am well qualified and a very amicable working environment where I could be most contributive to my industry and advance my career. (A place where I might like to stay a few years ?? UNLIKE my current job!!! Of course, neither they nor I know any of this until an interview.) I liken their response to trolling your lines from a fishing boat and getting a sudden hit on one of them ?? do you say, ??Well, we??ll just cruise around here for a few more hours and see how many more hits we might get,???? No, you tend that line, set the hook and begin reeling. Is there any thing I should be doing to follow up? I don??t want to come off as an annoyance!
