In Reply To: Has anyone ever done this? I'm reconsidering a pseudo-promotion (cross-country move, same pay, better job/title) within my company that I turned down a few weeks ago (it's recently been reposted). I wonder how it will be perceived--should approach the recruiter or the person I would be working for? Just wonder if anyone has been in this situation before and has any advice. I can't really find this situation addressed on any of the many online career sites. Thanks.
Message: I see no risk in asking, but make sure you talk to the person you would be working for and not the recruiter. Don't do it, though, unless you are sure you want the job and will take it this time if they offer it to you. If your new manager agrees to hire you, then the recruitment is just a formality. When they ask you why you turned it down initially and now want it, be as honest as you can. You thought about it more and realized what a great opportunity it is. Your wife initially was against moving, but after you discussed it more she became enthusiastic about it. Convince the person that these past few weeks have given you the chance to consider all aspects - including the negative ones -and you are sure you want to do it. The worst that can happen is that you will be turned down. I can't imagine that it would hurt your career prospects in any way.
