I live in northern VA and presently work in maryland as a software engineer for Lockheed Martin. I went to school in the D.C. area and I can say that most of the companies around here focus on systems or software engineering for government contracts, whether it's DoD or other government organizations. If you already have a DoD clearance you should be in demand wherever you go. Being an "out of towner" shouldn't be an issue either, I work with a ton of people from schools up north.
One thing to be aware of though is the traffic is ridiculous. I actually have family in Connecticut and was wondering what the engineering market is like up there. |

In your opinion, what percentage of money spent on defense is simply wasted?
Having spent 12 years in the private sector, which is on route to eliminate all waste (ie, people), and not having any federal experience, I'd be interested to hear an insider's opinion.
