In Reply To: You would think that before you spent the time to write an article about BLS's unemployment stats you would take a few minutes to read how they actually calculate the rate. The headline number that you cite in your article has nothing to do with unemployment benefits as you suggest. You do not "fall off the list" after six months only when and if you stop looking for work. Pay particular attention to the second link where it says: "Some people think that to get these figures on unemployment the Government uses the number of persons filing claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits under State or Federal Government programs. But some people are still jobless when their benefits run out, and many more are not eligible at all or delay or never apply for benefits. So, quite clearly, UI information cannot be used as a source for complete information on the number of unemployed." http://www.bls.gov/dolfaq/bls_ques23.htm http://www.bls.gov/cps/cps_htgm.htm You can also find information about the participation rate that you seem to be talking about in your article from BLS as well: http://www.bls.gov/webapps/legacy/cpsatab1.htm In response to your question on thevault.com: no I wouldn??t advertise that you run that site if this is the type of research you are capable of (i only bothered to read the first "article")?? no wonder you can??t find a job.
