In Reply To: I'm in the process of looking for a job and I'm not having much luck. One of the most annoying things I encounter are recruiters who don't bother to take down online job postings after the position has been filled. I can't tell you how many times I send in an application only to be told that there no longer is an opening. Worse still, many companies continue to leave the job postings up. Don't they realize that they are needlessly wasting job seekers' time? There are some real jerks out there... If anyone that reads this is in HR or a hiring manager, please have the common decency to take down job ads once the position has been filled; it's just the right thing to do.
Message: (I'm not a recruiter) I think someone recently came up with a statistic regarding postings. I don't recall the exact figure, but a large % of postings are: a) Expired, but the career site presenting repeats weekly postings until notified otherwise which does not necessarily happen b) The employer has already identified and/or secured its hiree through irregular channels and is simply advertising the position publicly to go through the motions and comply with HR.
