In Reply To: what surprises me is how much free time you have to post on this board from work... your posts are not addressing the original story on thinkandask. you are talking about the household survey, i'm talking about the largely unknown unemployed figures. (john: I'm glad.....you stopped eating beef?) if you read the proposal for the USDA plans in 2005 you'd find that they are not intending to sample... historically they've sampled a fraction and that will no longer be the case. and this example is perfect for how their sister-org, labor department, should keep track of those without jobs. you mentioned that it is too difficult to keep track of everyone, and i'm saying that if a federal agency can track animals with such detail why can they not track people too? (john: I don't understand ... this thread can see that.) your case is not addressing the story published on thinkandask. the example shows how people fall off the weekly/monthly claims and therefore 'appear' to show the economic outlook is improving on the job front. i stand by my assertion that BLS data is flawed and does not measure the true impact of the jobless claims. i am not alone... Kathleen Utgoff spends much time 'defending' her agency's data... why would she have to defend data unless it is not accurate? even with the surveys you claim to support, she says: "Utgoff said economists at the BLS would continue to look into why the surveys have come uncoupled." even she doesn't sound optimistic about these same surveys you claim are trustworthy... interesting. http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/06/news/economy/job_survey.reut/ (john: If I'm writing false articles... swift boat a while back would you? ) you have not shared with us where your articles are published.... as of yesterday afternoon the 'porn' problem is now with those who can act legally on my behalf. as for swifties, sounds like lawyers are going to run after them too.
Message: The USDA does use sampling right now which goes against you showing me how the government has done things other then sampling. The article is, as you say, just a proposal which has not happened. Although I humored you by even debating this point the relevance to people is limited unless you plan to get a chip implanted in you that can somehow detect when you are working and when you aren't. Can you show anything from BLS or anything other site which suggests that the government's unemployment rate (which is what you used for your article) or the nonfarm payrolls have anything whatsoever to do with weekly or monthly claims? And that you ??fall off of them after 26 weeks??? If not how can you make the claim in your article and then "stand by it"? Can you show anything that suggests that countries listed on your site use anything other then a survey and the basic definition of unemployment that the US does? If not how can you compare unemployment rates which aren??t equal and then "stand by it"? Can you show anything that suggests that the LATs uses anything other then "white house statisticians" (i.e. the BLS)? If you can't show this how can you suggest that the LAT's unemployment number (which is really from the BLS where I showed you) is the "highest it's been in ten years"? If you look at the 9.7% number (which was 0.3% higher then the year before) there were other times in the past ten years where it was above 10%. How do you justify saying it is at a ten year high in your article and ??stand by it??? You don't understand this topic enough to be writing articles on the subject. You can't even comprehend a dumb-downed CNN article. Both of the surveys are just that surveys. You don't "fall off" of either one after 26 months. No matter how much you dislike how the BLS works (or how inaccurate you think the surveys are) the above pieces of information which are in your article are wrong (arguing otherwise makes you look like an idiot) and they account for the majority of the article, yet you stand by them and it, why? I couldn??t care less about your website, porn sites, or the swift boat vets (other then to point out how you are using their tactics).
