In Reply To: CONTD from 1 (john: I think your faith in IT systems is too high.....) maybe it is too high; however, i will not change my optimism simply because the process is a challenge. lets be innovative here... look at the auto industry for example. GM is working on non-petrol autos. i say that within my lifetime we'll be driving non-gasoline autos. combo of hydrogen electric/battery offers high probability for ending the reliance upon oil. at present the, what we would call 'engine area' is 11 inches thick and is the base of the auto, or a skateboard type-base. the shell is affixed to this board. with advancement this will continue to evolve and change and perhaps introduce a very different way of powering autos than even they predict today. complex. unemployment figures are not that complex. i will be clear, my greatest concern is for those people like myself who are seeking a job after layoff. i'm going to find a job eventually.... might be 2 years -- that is the going rate for ex-ibmers. i do not believe it is difficult to track us. maybe it means that after 26 weeks of the current $405 payment it drops to $100 per week until that person finds a job. why not (in the form) for unemployment we are required to list 5 or 10 locations we've applied? (again, it is only data, and *if* you are caught misrepresenting yourself you lose your benefits.) i have no problem sharing my app history with the labor department. i would expect the feds to desire a true take on the job front. no matter who is president. if we see that hundreds of thousands of degreed professionals in the usa have not found jobs we should be asking, "why?" we should be assisting professionals in the labor market -- boosting their marketability, increasing their skill set. have a total grasp on the labor market and pool to help 20 yr olds in college decided which industries are more stable, etc. i don't rely upon forbes to tell me, even though they print sample surveys. the idea that we either sink or swim as one professional in the work force is not competitive in a world marketplace set on overtaking us. this is about teamwork at multiple levels. currently, i say we ignore the problem -- just as we ignore the problem of our 'electoral college' where again, small states carry more voting weight per/person than larger states. it is not fair and balanced. (john: .... since I think I have shown throughout this thread that your article is extremely inaccurate do you plan to still leave it on your site? ) you have not proven your case. i'll answer it this way. since you and i have been talking here on the vault, copyrighted content from thinkandask.com is showing up on four pornography websites. i'll deal with this. smear campaigns, which seem to be trendy at the moment, are very typical of the kind of reasoning (or lack of reasoning) you've expressed. in other words, "you are with us or you are against us." "you are good or you are evil." i stand by each and every article published on thinkandask -- it includes submissions in support of bush. it includes articles on pedophilia. it includes articles on job hunting and on unemployment. the site blasts the media for complacency, and it blasts the one man who set out to destroy manhattan. osama bin laden. (remember him?) and in a very odd way i'm actually protecting your right to disagree. however I??ve not attacked you, nor have i attacked your employer (it shows up in my logs btw.) i'm pleased for the discourse with you. we don't agree on the premise of unemployment rate and i leave it there. what i find sad is that some people today can't stop at disagreement -- they have to go beyond to destroy the one who delivers the message. it won't work. this old phrase has not failed me yet - in 41 years. "what goes around, comes around." cheers.
Message: I'm glad you actually did some of your own research and saw that the USDA also uses sampling (which goes against the original reason you brought them up) and that you don't have a better way to collect the information unless "they offer you a job". Have you stopped eating beef? I don't understand how any objective person ("journalist") can think that I have not proven my case. Do you still believe that you "fall off the BLS statistics after 26 weeks"? Do you still think that the EU uses something other then a survey and the same basic definition of unemployment as the US? Do you think the LAT used something other then ??white house statisticians?? to collect data? You can stand by articles full of false information all you want but make no mistake about it your article is wrong and anyone who read the links I??ve posted throughout this thread can see that. If I'm writing false articles at some point in the future I hope it does "come around" to me. But unlike you I will correct mistakes when someone has cited sources and shown me that I'm wrong. I also was happy to debate (teach you) until you resorted to suggesting that I put your articles on a porn web site (why would I do that again?). I realize that you want to deflect attention away from your article which is full of inaccuracies but you??ll have to do better then that. Who is trying to smear again? You wouldn??t have been on a swift boat a while back would you?
